About Chris Knowles - Celtic Harpist
Celtic and popular instrumental music for weddings, corporate events etc.
Chris is a full-time professional musician. His main instrument is the Celtic Harp. He specialises particularly in traditional Celtic music, but he also has a considerable repertoire of popular romantic song tunes, film themes and a few popular light classical pieces, and also a set of early/medieval pieces. He can offer a set of exclusively Irish, Scottish, Welsh, OR popular music if required, or a mixture of any combination of these. As well as playing public performances, Chris is also available for weddings, receptions, corporate events and other private bookings. The Celtic harp has a beautiful bright, melodic and resonant sound, and is somewhat smaller than the classical pedal harp. Chris uses a very compact high quality amplifier where needed, so he doesn't take up much space, and can move relatively easily from one room to another within a venue with minimum fuss, for instance from a wedding ceremony room to the reception area or dining room. Chris has 2 Celtic harps: the main one he uses is a Camac Ulysse 34 string harp, a modern instrument with an elegant appearance and a beautiful full tone. The other is an antique Morley clarsach, a smaller 30-string harp. As well as playing solo, Chris also offers a duo or trio called 'The Gold Ring' in the following combinations; 1) Chris in duo playing Celtic harp & bouzouki with flute player/uilleann piper Ben Walker. Celtic, Irish & other music ranging from beautiful melodic airs to fast exciting reels. 2) Chris in a duo playing Celtic harp, bouzouki & whistle with fiddle player Mike Lease (Irish and Welsh music- hornpipes, airs, jigs & reels etc.) 3) Trio consisting of either of the above duos plus bodhran player. Chris has been a professional musician and member of the Musicians Union for 29 years. He has Public Liability Insurance cover, and his P.A. equipment is P.A.T. tested. Available for bookings throughout the UK.
