Defend Britain is a historical re-enactment team which specialise in the Essex Regiment Home Guard & Auxiliary Territorial Service, we also portray the 1st Battalion Essex 44th Foot regiment and 58th (Independent Kent) Anti-Aircraft Regiment and Essex Military Police, we display mock battles, weapon & kit displays and general home life. Created in June 2008, Defend Britain's key objective is to bring history to life. With members from all walks of life, the group is entirely made up of volunteers who give up spare time to re-create life like scenes for the public and other organisations. The group is self funded by members of the group who purchase the equipment needed to portray the correct periods. We are also a group who are supporters of H4H (help for heroes) and raise money all year around for this charity, sporting many charity events and fund raisers. We are a jolly, fun loving, professional team of young people, who love to bring history to life in a new way, we are a public orientated group, which attend many military conventions across the country, so keep your eyes open for us and say "hello". We are always looking for new members. If you are interested in WW2 or re-enacting, then don't hesitate to contact us. The activities of the group take place weekly on Wednesday training evenings from 6pm till 9pm at our very own detachment in South Hanningfield, Chelmsford Essex. Most of our events are weekends and are usually seasonal. We offer qualifications and skills which can be used internally & externally (civvi life). Not only that our group like to socialise together, by holding summer dinners (Mess & Silver service),Christmas outings as well as holidays away. Our group consider any applicants from the age of 15+ this is a great opportunity to make new friends, and find a rewarding way to spend some of your weekends. Frequently Asked Questions and Answer..... What will my first event be like? If you've not been involved with historical re-enactment before, it can seem quite daunting taking that initial step and attending your first event, but we are a small friendly group and every attempt is made to make new members feel welcome. We will readily offer help and advice on any part of the hobby, from authenticity to where to get the best reproduction kit. What will be expected from me? For the first six months very little, we would like you to come to at least one main event or training weekend and to follow the club rules. By the end of the first year we would - although we are very flexible on this - like you to have the basic kit as laid out in the personal equipment table (which we can provide). In a group like ours you only get out what you put in so the more events you do the more fun you have. Please view our events page and come and meet us.
