I’m Alex Ranahan, a London-based Conference MC, Awards Host and Corporate Event Presenter. I have hosted hundreds of live, virtual and hybrid corporate events, earned more than 500 five-star reviews and worked with audiences of up to 1,400. My job is to bring the room together, keep the programme moving and make sure the important moments land—while supporting the people on stage and taking pressure away from the organiser. I create energy without creating awkwardness. That means confident guests can get involved, while quieter guests can still feel part of the event without being put on the spot. “It was perfect for encouraging engagement without forcing it.” — Schneider Electric I can help with: • Conference hosting • Awards and gala hosting • Interviews, panels and fireside conversations • Leadership events and company celebrations • Live, virtual and hybrid events Before the event, I take time to understand your audience, objectives, speakers, tone and running order. On the day, I work closely with you and the production team, take confident ownership of the room and adapt calmly when timings or plans change. For full conferences and awards programmes, I can host from the first welcome to the final close—giving the event one consistent voice, keeping the audience connected and leaving you with one less moving part to manage. I have hosted for organisations including Amazon Web Services, Virgin Media O2, Microsoft, Google, Disney, Meta, BlackRock, PwC, KPMG, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Procter & Gamble, LEGO, L’Oréal, PepsiCo and IBM. Clients book me when they want more than someone to read the running order. They want one trusted host looking after the room, supporting the people on stage and keeping the whole event connected.

About us

I trained as an actor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire before moving to China to create and facilitate educational courses. When I returned to the UK, I developed a proof of concept for a comedy series and sent it to Channel 4—on the very day the country went into lockdown. While working out what came next, I was head-hunted to facilitate an event and quickly realised I had found something that suited me perfectly: reading a room, reacting in the moment and helping people feel genuinely part of the experience. That led to international bookings and hundreds of live, virtual and hybrid corporate events. My background in performance and facilitation means I am equally comfortable opening a large conference, leading an awards programme, interviewing someone on stage or helping an audience feel involved without turning participation into compulsory fun. My style is warm, quick-witted and dependable: corporate-safe without being stale, energetic without overpowering the room, and engaging without making myself the centre of attention.

FAQ

What types of events do you host? I specialise in conferences, awards evenings, gala dinners, leadership events, company celebrations, interviews and panel discussions. I also host live, virtual and hybrid events, from one important segment to a full programme running from the first welcome to the final close. What can you handle on the day? I can welcome the audience, introduce speakers and award winners, conduct interviews, host panels, manage transitions, lead audience moments and keep the programme moving. I also work closely with the organiser and production team, supporting changes behind the scenes while making everything feel natural to the audience. How do you prepare for an event? I take time to understand your audience, objectives, speakers, tone and running order. I then work closely with you and the production team so that introductions, transitions and important moments feel properly prepared rather than simply scripted. Can you help with scripts, introductions and the running order? Yes. I can work from a completed script or help strengthen speaker introductions, transitions, award announcements, interview questions and key audience moments. I am not there to rewrite your event in my voice. I help make sure your message sounds natural, the important moments land properly and the programme feels connected. Can you adapt your style to our audience? Absolutely. The event can feel polished and formal, warm and conversational or lively and celebratory. I tailor the tone, energy and level of interaction to suit your organisation, audience and objectives without becoming forced or overbearing. How do you engage guests without making them uncomfortable? I read the room and give people different ways to feel involved. Some guests naturally want to speak up or take part. Others would rather enjoy the experience without being placed in the spotlight. I create genuine energy without forced participation, embarrassment or the feeling of compulsory fun. What happens if timings or plans change? Live events rarely run exactly to plan. I stay closely connected with the organiser and production team, adapt calmly and keep the audience engaged while timings, speakers or programme details are adjusted. Can you host interviews, panels and fireside conversations? Yes. My background in performance and facilitation helps me put guests at ease, listen properly and keep conversations natural without losing focus. I can work from agreed questions, follow interesting answers in the moment and ask the question the audience is now thinking—while still keeping the conversation purposeful and on time. Where the brief allows, I can also lead a fully improvised interview and let the conversation develop in the most natural and engaging direction. Why book you for the whole event rather than one section? When I am involved from the first welcome to the final close, I can establish the tone, build familiarity with the audience, support speakers throughout the programme and make changes feel joined up rather than disruptive. It also gives you one trusted person taking responsibility for the room across the whole event. What do you need to provide an accurate quote? Please share the event date, venue, approximate timings, audience size and type of event. It is also helpful to know what you would like me to handle and whether the programme includes speakers, interviews, awards, rehearsals or audience interaction. Do you travel outside London? Yes. I am based in London and travel across the UK and internationally for suitable events. Any travel, accommodation or additional expenses will be agreed clearly before the booking is confirmed. What happens if we would like to book you? Once we have discussed the event and agreed the scope, I will provide a clear quote and booking agreement. From there, I will work with you on the audience, tone, running order and key details so you feel prepared and confident before the event begins.

From the first welcome to the final close, I support your speakers, connect each part of the programme and keep the energy moving without making anything feel forced or overdone. Typical clients

I work with event agencies, professional associations, internal events teams and businesses planning conferences, awards evenings, gala dinners, leadership events and company celebrations. I have hosted for organisations including Amazon Web Services, Virgin Media O2, Microsoft, Google, Disney, Meta, BlackRock, PwC, KPMG, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Procter & Gamble, LEGO, L’Oréal, PepsiCo and IBM. My clients have invested too much in their event for the room to feel flat, awkward or disjointed. They want a host who can bring the room to life, support their speakers and keep everything moving - without forced participation, unnecessary ego or leaving the organiser to hold the whole event together themselves. They value warmth, quick wit and dependable delivery, with the confidence that I can read the room, adapt calmly when plans change and help both introverts and extroverts feel part of the experience.
