Overview
One of Britain's leading young harpists, Llywelyn Ifan Jones is in demand internationally.
Born in Aberaeron, Llywelyn completed his postgraduate studies in 2015 with the highest honours from the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg, where he won First Prize in the Savarez-Corelli Kammermusik Competition. He was mentored by Stephen Fitzpatrick, Principal Harpist of the Staatskapelle Orchestra, Berlin, and his studies were generously funded by the James Pantyfedwen Trust. Before his time in Salzburg, he studied the harp intensively with Caryl Thomas at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, receiving numerous awards including the Mansel Thomas Award, the Royal Welsh Fusiliers Award, and the Daniel Emlyn Davies Award. In 2013, he won a prestigious Lyon and Healy Award, first prize at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, and the Pencerdd Gwalia Competition. Llywelyn has performed with prestigious ensembles such as the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Sinfonia Cymru, and the Cory Band. He has appeared at events like the World Harp Congress in Vancouver and has given solo performances in Vienna, Salzburg, and Norway. His concerto debut was in 2014, performing Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp at the Dora Stoutzker Hall in Cardiff. He has played for a variety of audiences and events, including the Diamond Jubilee celebration of HRH Queen Elizabeth II and Wales Rugby Union events. Other engagements include performances for the Football Association of Wales and the London 2012 Wales Olympic launch. In April 2014, Llywelyn was chosen for the late Yehudi Menuhin’s Live Music Now scheme, performing both as a soloist and in a duo with soprano Jessica Robinson. This scheme has taken him to many venues across Wales, Austria, and Germany. Llywelyn offers a wide repertoire, from classical favourites to traditional folk music, jazz standards, and contemporary hits. He collaborates with a flautist and a soprano singer, offering Harp and Flute or Harp and Voice duos. Harp music can be a great addition to any part of a wedding day. It can be included before the ceremony as guests await the arrival of the bridal party, provide elegant music for the procession, and accompany the signing of the register. It is also ideal for entertaining guests during a drinks reception as the couple take photos or mingle.
